I was talking with Luke the other day.  He has a quest to find the Perfect Apple. This past fall he was sold an apple by a Scout on the street and it was the Ultimate Apple.  The texture, the flavour, all conditions were exactly right for the Best Apple-related Experience of his life (apart from Leopard, one assumes).  In his own words:

I forget, what do you call an offline blog?

Oh, right.  A journal.  I have one of those, too.  I bought it at Lee Valley in December of 2007.  At the time I was reading the aforementioned history of the HBC and most of the research for those books came from journals that the various traders and factors (heads of trading posts or ‘factories’) kept during their time on the Bay.

What Hath Science Wrought‽ Episode One

Herewith please find the first of (possibly) many installments of a section having to do with me, heat and chemical reactions.  In short, cooking.  If the title has a square or a strange character for you, it is an interrobang.

Yesterday afternoon, Gmail’s ad banner threw up an interesting link.  Lately I’ve been feeling as though everything I eat is laden with cheese so this seemed an excellent opportunity to exercise my rather noodly (oh ho ho) cooking muscles.  If Mum is reading this (and doesn’t take time to check out the recipe which would surprise me), yes, I not only ate something with butternut squash in it, I chose it out and cooked it myself.  Wonders will never cease after the jump.
